Tom’s Hello-to-Hollywood, calling-card venture, ALICE GOODBODY did what he’d hoped: it kicked off a wildly successful long-running career in TV and Film. Independently made, ALICE GOODBODY quickly became a cult-classic, successful in theatrical distribution and on such then-TV outlets as Playboy Channel. The unexpected part: Tom had come to LA thinking of himself as a Director. But this film quickly got him work as a Writer, starting with a Comedy Pilot for CBS!
ALICE GOODBODY Review by Ian Jane
Alice Goodbody, writer/director Tom Sawyer's comedic tale of a wannabe actress who falls in with casting couch auditions and horny Hollywood power players, is an appropriately scathing poke at the American movie industry machine. It's also pretty damn funny.
A mix of slapstick and raunchy sex comedy, Alice Goodbody, thanks to Sharon Kelly's charisma in the lead role, it's hard not to like Alice and hope she's able to make it one way or another.
Entertaining stuff. The frequent nudity and raunchy humor ups the exploitation factor but underneath all that are some well written characters and interesting performances from a quirky cast of B-movie stars.
